Ok, I have to admit I’m not a fan of ‘Cookie Monster’ metal anymore, but there was a time in my life where that’s pretty much all listened to. One of my favorite bands, Dead Horse, even inspired me to paint a 4 foot tall horse skeleton on my bedroom wall and name my BBS Peaceful Death.

Really.

Anyway, I found this video on YouTube from a SxSW last last year. It’s from the Dead Horse album ‘Peaceful Dead and Pretty Flowers,’ Michael Haaga joins Cephalic Carnage for the song, Turn.

Bikes and boredom

Bikes: I spent too much money at Bayou Bicycles this weekend, but it was on stuff I need so I don’t feel bad about it - a pump, patch kit, tire levers, and a few tools. I’m still trying to bring this Dunelt frame back to life. I stripped and painted it a pretty shade of blue over the weekend, now I need to make some decals. I bought 700×23 tires for it today then got home and realized my tubes are for 18-20 so I have to inflate it a bit over the limit. I should really get a new front wheel too, but I can’t with this check. I may just use the front wheel off the Fuji that I got from Freecycle for Dan since I doubt he’ll be using it any time soon. The front wheel from Van Dessel is $70. That will have to wait until next check. I was going to get a new fork, but I got the good folks at Bayou to spread the one I had to fit a modern wheel. That should hold me over for a while. Now I just need a quill stem that fits both the headset and the bullhorns I got and I’ll be all set. Yay.

Boredom: It doesn’t look like the bike thing is another passing distraction. After the VW, the Defender Cocktail, and BBS I’m glad I’ve found something I enjoy that doesn’t feel forced or somehow doomed to left dangling in the wind due to financial constraints. It is, however, a distraction from parts of my life that are feeling forced right now.

As personal and professional apathy sets in, it’s nice to be able to hop on the bike and ride.

Latest Obsession: Bicycle

In case you haven’t noticed, I go through a cycle of obsessive phases. VW, Defender, Photography, BBS, and now: the Bicycle. Nothing ever really gets followed through to it’s end, but at least I learn a bit along the way which is all I’m trying to do anyway. Once I come around full circle I’ll finish the project, but it’s usually frustrating to those around me. Although, these aren’t all total flops: the BBS is up and the bicycle is built (pictures to come) so it’s not always a total flop. Money and frustration usually get in the way.

Anyway, I came across these great sites for bicycle stuff: Persons-Majestic and Sheldon Brown. I’m always amazed to google for something bike related, only to find it on Sheldon’s site. Great resource.

If anyone reading this (this means you, rachelle) has any old BBS g-files or artwork (especially from my BBS - I don’t know what I did with any of that. I miss my Peaceful Death and Odie welcome screens!!! I’m seriously thinking about putting it back up. I’m excited in the resurgance of the BBS scene - a lot of the old BBS doors games are starting to be supported and updated again, as well as some of the old BBS software. Oddly enough, although WWIV has released a new version of the board (5.0!) the WWIV site is down. Sucks.

If you can remember any of your favorite subs, let me know and I’ll try to get them back up. :)

6/8/04 edit: I just added Synchronet. I think I’m going to go with it instead of Mystic.. I’ve found it easier to deal with plus the docs are much more thorough.
