No clever title.

I am really in no shape to type much right now. I found out a couple of hours ago that my best friend in DC, Tadd, died earlier this morning. It’s cliche, but he truly was one of the nicest guys I’ve ever met.

I’ll miss you.

  1. Thanks all of you. It’s been kind of rough. I’d known Tadd for almost as long as I’ve been here – he’s one of the first people I met in DC. We hit it off pretty quick and became close friends. I don’t think a week went by that we didn’t hang out in some way. Grabbing a bite, playing trivia at Nellie’s, cutting up at Omega, or just sitting around talking about work or bitching about what lovable pains in the ass cats can be.

The hard part is that our friends didn’t really overlap that much so I haven’t really had anyone to talk to… you know, that knew him too. My friends Michael and Joel come home in the next few days – they both live near me and they knew him as well, so I’ll feel less isolated. Our friend Keith stopped by the night we found out. That helped.

I decided to walk home from jury duty today (about 3 miles) and I just took the simplest route – down 7th to M and turned left at the Convention Center. It wasn’t until I turned onto M that I realized that Tadd lived five blocks from there.

I passed by his house and stood in front of his door for maybe 15 seconds before I started sobbing. His neighbors must of thought I was crazy. :)

After a few minutes I started walking up the stairs to leave and I recognized the logo on some boxes near the sidewalk. They were some of the printer-paper boxes he used to move his stuff into his new apartment. I don’t remember the brand name or the logo at the moment, but I’ll know it if I see it again and I don’t think I’ll be able control myself if I do.

Regardless – Marshall, you’re right. He was an incredibly nice, amazingly fantastic person. I’m glad I got to know him.
