Holy crap, I can’t believe it’s almost Thanksgiving weekend. Not that I’m particularly excited about the holiday this year, seeing as I’m 1300 miles away from 98.4% of my friends and family. I’ll probably be spending thursday with Alberto and his girlfriend, gorging myself with turkey and counting the minutes down to Friday night’s They Might Be Giants show at 9:30 Club. DC is one of three show’s they’re playing their classic ‘89 album “Flood” in it’s entirety for the first time in like some ungodly amount of time and I’m about to pee myself I’m so excited.

I used the post election buy-one-get-one free deal at tickets.com so I have a spare ticket. Just my luck, everyone I’ve asked is either busy, broke or out of town that night so I’ll probably end up going by myself. :(

Thank you to Marshall for this WWLTV.com news story announcing New Orleans new status of Most Dangerous City. While I love the city dearly, the fact is just over three years ago NOLA was one of the safest cities in the country for months following the storm (granted, it was basically under marshall law at the time.) This is further evidence that if any city can fuck something up like starting over from scratch, it’s New Orleans.

“New Orleans clearly had a high murder rate compared to the national average,” said Quarterly editor Doug Goldenberg-Hart. “New Orleans rate was about 17-times the national average for murder per 100-thousand people. That dragged New Orleans’ score pretty high. Across other areas, car theft was a big problem as was burglary for New Orleans.

Same old crime, same old politicians, same old bullshit, same ol’ same ol’. Way to go!

Sound the trumpet!

I’ve gotten into a few discussions here with some straight friends who, for lack of better phrasing, “just dont get it” when it comes to the recent events in states such as California and Florida. (November 4th, Lorida basically banned gay adoption, gay civil unions, etc.)

I’ve been wanting to post my thoughts on the issue, but DOGPOET pretty much covers most of what I’ve been trying to say.
